Ellicottville Class of 2025- THE BOB MCCARTHY SCHOLARSHIPS

The Bob McCarthy Foundation continues its tradition of providing scholarships to graduating students at ECS & BOCES. The Foundation awards a $500 scholarship to students that demonstrate a good work ethic, determination and community service.  Our goal is to support students pursuing higher education and or entering the trades. 

This year a total of 4 Scholarships were presented with 3 going to ECS graduates and a forth to a BOCES CTE student.

Recipients:

 

Madisyn Winship The BOCES CTE center recipient Madisyn Winship is a Cattaraugus Little Valley CSD student.  Madisyn graduated from the Power Equipment Operations program and has been accepted to the Universal Technical Institute and plans to major in welding.  Madisyn learned how to weld for the first time at the Career and Technical Education Center in Ellicottville. She excelled at it and decided to explore the benefits of welding as a career. She chose Universal Technical Institute and is very excited and eager to enter into a career field that has historically been a mostly male trade area.. Madisyn is a member of the local chapter of the National Technical Honor Society and has participated on multiple sports teams at her home school.

 

Addison John will be attending Kent State University majoring in Business Management.  While at ECS Addison was captain of both the soccer and basketball teams and the President of the Student Council.   She developed her leadership skills in these roles but dedicated time to the Food Pantry, Caring Closet while volunteering for special Olympics and the senior citizen home while also helping at many of Ellicottville’s local events.  Addison has been selected for the exclusive Kent State Provost Leadership Academy which should be a sign of things to come for her future.

 

Ryan Metzer will be attending Alfred University majoring in History with a minor in Education.  Ryan volunteered for many events in Ellicottville including Bob McCarthy’s Irish Christmas and Winter Carnival at Holiday Valley Tubing park.  His experience helping children drove his decision to pursue education so he can continue to help children.

 

Adelaide Weber will be attending Jamestown Community College for Nursing.  Through her experience during the Medical Assisting program at BOCES, Adelaide saw firsthand the benefits that could be provided to the community through clinics held there.  Adelaide also did an internship at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital increasing her knowledge of care for patients in a medical environment.
